Wow!  Survivor Florida will be so happy that # 3000 made the list!

I'm a little surprised Is The The End Of The Trail made it...but I won't complain.  THanks!

Fegan there are so many caches that should have made the list but did not due to the lack of participation.  Traveling from Daytona to Vero Beach and this is all that we had to consider.  We should have had a 100 caches to choose from but our list was pretty short when it came down to it.  I have no idea what it takes to get people to participate...it only needed a few minutes of their time.  Oh well, I am thankful to those that did take the time to submit a vote.  At least this time around the Space Coast is represented.  We took all the caches submitted and made sure they qualified.  Then we sat down and read the logs for those caches.  Based on the logs and what people had to say about them helped us decided what caches to put on the list.  So cograts to making the list.

Sorry I had know ider this was happening - course if I came onto the forums more often I would...  Sorry...

Here's a puzzling question... If it's the Reps Top Ten then why do folks other than the Reps have a say?  Just wondering...

There's something to that Cache Rating System floating around out there.  Perhaps, Just thinking out loud here...  If'n this was adopted by GS and incorporated so folks could privately vote on caches as they did em you might get what would be a fairly accurate account of the Cachers Choice...  You see with thes system you can be polite in your post but if you think it really was lame you could get the satisfaction via your vote... Likewise good caches could receive good ratings... This would be helpful to the general Caching audience when coming into the area...  JMHO

I've signed up and do it on my caches but as of now it only shows for those that are signed up, thus it is virtually unknown to the general Caching public.

If the Reps got behind it perhaps it would become a consideration for GS.

This might help for the one major delimiter with the Favorites list - participation + be a bit more unbiased.  If you don't do all the caches in a particular area there is no way to actually judge what's there - going from a handful of posts isn't any better - for instance - how many have done Fear Factor or Totally Tubular Two or Blatantly Obvious -  That's where I'm coming from.   Course categories for each type should be included.

Speaking of post - if you go to FGA forums / Home page / Etc - the only list I could find is the 2008 list...  I didn't find the 2009 list until I came in here...

The only reason it's referred to as the "Reps List" is because us reps are tasked with getting folks to submit their votes. Idealy, we'd have a few dozen to pick from, and we'd tally them to see which caches got multiple votes. That tally would end up as the final "Top 10" for that particular region. Since only one other person besides me submitted anything for Central Florida, the process was a bit less than ideal, but ya gotta work with what ya got. The "Toot Your Horn" list is a small handfull of caches, hidden by the reps, that they think are their best work.

Regarding a cache rating system: The only reason I can think of for GS not doing this, is because the competition does it.

There is a potential problem with a cache rating system - and that is, who is doing the rating?  If a bunch of folks who want to roll up in their car and sign the log without searching or even getting out of the seat are the majority, then only really lame-o caches will get ratings.  "That Other" listing service has a more cohesive group - the folks there are more inot the long hikes and difficult terrain, so the ratings are more likely to match your own interests.  There is also a very interesting little service that matches the ratings I give caches to other cachers who gave similar ratings, and lists caches they have done that I might like to do.

I didn't have any suggestions only because the rules limited the submissions by hide date, and I was too lazy to sort through everything and see if there were some recent hides that I liked.    Shoot me.

Perhaps it's just me but after reading all that was said I really think the Cache rating system is the way to go.  Capt, you have to actually look into it - all caches of all types could be included... In other words all cache types would be represented because that is what's out there.  Some folks don't like long hikes and bush whacking, some folks do but all caches would/could be represented.  If all we have are P&G people then that is what you get.  I don't see that being the majority but if it is then it would be a simple matter of category -  ie: Best of 1,2,3,4 or 5 terrain... But I don't think just terrain makes a cache good.  I've been to places where the terrain was only a 2 or so and the cache outstanding (IE: Totally Tubular Two - I think was outstanding, well thought out, fun and I would recommend it to everyone if it weren't archived (a sad day in geocaching history IMHO)).  Perhaps Best Traditional, Puzzle, Multi, etc - if the system was integrated then most folks would use it - you could have top ten of each category in each region nation wide... A program could be used to do this task rather then burden anyone/Reps and would be unbiased.  That way everyone could use it as a guide to have/get the most fun out of their visit... I know I'd like that rather then find all the stinkers on my own...

On another note... I see the principal behind date range but still don't get it.  I think if a cache is good then it's good who cares how long ago it was published. You want your newer caches to be listed then they best step up to the bar that has been set...  What am I saying mine might not have made the list... I really should think before I speak... The reality is although it's cool to have your cache listed I would rather give it to the cache that deserves it.  I mean after all it is what the caching community / Reps are recommending that best represents quality caching to those that read the list at least that's my interpretation.

I guess I'm

But if it's participation you want and what you currently are doing isn't working then perhaps I'm not the only one

You might want to consider new ideas and suggestions - just saying...

Take a look, try it you might like it...  http://dosensuche.de/GCVote/index.php  (Ya gotta love that German ingenuity).
