I usually keep stuff in reusable plastic containers with a handy zip closure.  You can purchase boxes of 10 to 50 for a couple bucks.  They conveniently come in sandwich sizes, up to gallon size.

Wouldn't ziploc containers fall under plastic bags?  I realize they're reusable, but they're easily discarded or can blow away in a breeze.

I think I'll stick with tupperware and thermos...don't want the park ranger stealing my lunch.

Can somebody who has done this run explain how I can bring food or drinks with me?
Forrest, I take a gallon thermos full of water with me, and a Lock & Lock full of snackage.
Funny thing; I've done this run a dozen times, and I've seen them search coolers once. Never seen them search kayak hatches. Just sayin'...

For those who would enjoy a little adventure I recommend the paddle to the "Highwater Camp" cache.

Check out the photos in the logs.......it's a beautiful spot along the St. Johns River.

The paddle from Lone Cabbage Fish Camp is 24 miles round trip.  The paddle from the Lake Poinsett boat launch is about 18 miles round trip.  This would most likely require an overnight stay at Highwater Camp.

I think that during periods of high water in the canal leading from the RIver Lakes Conservation Area parking lot, it's possible to make the journey to Highwater Camp with only a 6 1/2 mile round trip paddle.

Even beginners should be able to complete the paddle down the canal and across the St. Johns to Highwater Camp easily.....it should only take about 1/2 day or a little longer.

Yeah, we wont be able to attend this one either.  Hate to miss but already had commitments on Saturday.  Have fun everyone.  Hope to see some of you on Sunday though at Saddle Creek Cito another paddle event in Lakeland.

Alexander Springs - Doesn't look like that many caches actually on/near the water (perhaps 3), they all seem to be along the trail or "semi-road" to the West?

These are the four caches that are on the Alexander Springs run:

http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?wp=GC28CMQ Don't forget to bring a towel!
http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?wp=GC266GT Close Encounters 101
http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?wp=GC28CNN 10 (geo)Commandments
http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?wp=GC28CHZ Micronesia

The run is very different from Juniper, in that is starts off wide, with no shade, and ends up narrow, with full shade.
This arrangment is nice during warmer weather, as you reach the shade about the time it gets really hot.
It's about 8 miles, and there is no shuttle service, so you have to arrange things yourself. Not a problem, as the cache pages detail how this is done.
The run does not have the sheer volume of people on it that Juniper has, so critter sightings are more frequent.

I'm ready!
